The Anchor Handling Unit (AHU) is designed as a compete drop-in module, with operation at the bridge,
for the payout and
haul-in of the ships anchor. The AHU design provides anchor handling (payout and haul-in), wash down via
ships
distributed sea water systems, and system observation with an operator deployed camera, light and
monitor.
The Anchor Handling Unit is capable of four modes of operation including powered, auxiliary or
“free-fall” (which is
used in conjunction with powered operations for the last 15 fathoms of payout to the seabed),
maintenance and manual.
The AHU mechanically consists of an anchor windlass assembly for payout and haul-in of the anchor,
wildcat to secure the
chain during payout and retrieval, chain stopper to lock the chain in position when deployed, anchor
securing mechanism
to secure the anchor into the bolster, along with the anchor trunk, deck, chain locker, anchor, and
anchor chain. Also
included is the washdown system that injects pressurized water into the hawse pipe and anchor bolster
and an observation
system.
